Configure Gmail for Thunderbird

Stepwise instructions to configure Gmail for Thunderbird.
POP access for Gmail.
- Download and install Thunderbird.
(Thunderbird 0.9 - Size: 5.8 MB for Windows, English). - Open Thunderbird.
- From the menu bar select Tools --> Account Settings
- Click the Add Account tab on the left-hand side of the Account Settings window.
- Select the radio button that says Email Account in the New Account Setup window and click on the Next tab.
- In the Identity window, enter your Name (as you’d like it to appear) and your email address as yourname@gmail.com, and click on the Next tab.
- In the Server Information window, select the POP radio button.
- Enter pop.gmail.com in the text box for the Incoming server name.
- Check (tick-mark) the Use Global Inbox checkbox, and click on the Next tab. In the User Names window, enter your email address.
For example, chirayu, vijay.chauhan, or abc.xyzee
Do not write @gmail.com - Enter a name for your account.
For example: Work, Personal, Office, Gmail, or Friends etc.
You may also keep yourname@gmail.com as the default account name. - Read your account setup information. Click on the Finish tab to exit or click on the Back tab to edit the information.
- From the Menu Bar go to Tools --> Account Settings --> Account Settings window
- Enter the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings as follows:
- Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 587
- Check (tick-mark) the use name and password checkbox
- Username: yourname@gmail.com
- Use Secure Connection: Select the TLS radio button
- Click the OK tab - From the Menu Bar go to Tools --> Account Settings --> Account Settings window.
- Enter the Server Settings as follows:
- Server Name: pop.gmail.com
- Port: 995
- User Name: yourname@gmail.com
- Check (tick-mark) the Use Secure Connection (SSL) checkbox
- Click on the OK tab
Note: Login to your Gmail account on the web and in Forwarding and POP settings, ensure that you have enabled POP access.
You are done with configuring your Gmail account for Thunderbird.
Check your mail. Try it out.
