Google gets a presence in Brazil; to open R&D center for Latin America
Close on the heels of its decision to open a R&D center in China, Google has bought Brazil's Akwan Information Technologies and will use it to set up a R&D center for Latin America.
Akwan Information Technologies creates specialized search engines for businesses, institutions, and Web portals and is based in Recife, the fourth-largest city of Brazil and capital of the north-eastern state of Pernambuco. Akwan's search technology used in TodoBr.com.br is now a part of Google Brasil.
