India were 344 for 6 at stumps on day one, losing three quick wickets in the post-tea session to collapse from 225 for 2 to 298 for 5. Rahul Darvid was out in the last over of the day, caught behind by Kamran Akmal—his third catch of the day, off the bowling of Danish Kaneria.

Rahul Dravid completed his 19th Test match hundred and shared good partnerships with Virender Sehwag (81), Sachin Tendulkar (52), and Dinesh Karthik (28 not out).
