Cricket: 2nd Test, 1st Day's Play. Sehwag Gives a Flying Start to India

Pakistan's Cricket Tour of India in March and April 2005.
2nd Test Match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata (Calcutta).

Teams

India
Off spinner Harbhajan Singh comes in place of left-arm fast bowler Zaheer Khan. Harbhajan will strengthen the spin attack with Anil Kumble. Irfan and Balaji will share the new ball and Saurav Ganguly will chip in with a few overs of medium pace.

Pakistan
Shahid Afridi comes in place of Salman Butt and will open the batting for Pakistan. Rookie left-arm fast bowler Mohammed Khalil replaces Naved-ul-Hasan.

Start of 1st Day's Play

Saurav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat first on an Eden Gardens pitch expected to play true for five days. Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir started on a fast and confident note. What else can one expect when Virender Sehwag is at the crease? :-)

The first wicket fell on 80 when Gautam Gambhir was out LBW to leg spinner Danish Kaneria for 29 runs. Virender Sehwag is going strong on 58 with 8 fours and Rahul Dravid has joined him at the crease.

Brief Scores at 11:25 a.m. IST (+05:30 GMT).
India...1st Innings...112 for 1 in 27 overs
