Hyderabad Musings. Humour.

Kal ata bole to kab ata bhai...

Parsaun... tomorrow, yesterday... has a different meaning in Hyderabad.
It can mean tomorrow or day after tomorrow or yesterday or day before yesterday or even a month ago.

We had called a carpenter for some household work.

C: Carpenter
Me: Myself.

C: Saab plywood aato (Auto) se leka ata
Me: kab aate bhai (read, bhai as bh(e), pronounce without the 'Hindi matra' for 'bha').
C: kal ata mai, aap nakko bole to bhi, kal ata mai...

Two days pass by, the carpenter doesn't turn up.
He has a cell phone.

Me: Maalik, aap kal aate bole to kab aate bhai...
C: Parsaun ghar ke fittinga dekh liye, ab kal aata mai..
Me: Aap parsaun, kal ata bole the, to ab gharku kab aarain?
C: Kal ata mai...
Me: Exasperated, maalik, kal bole to kab ata aapka kal... kitte din ke baad.
C: Mai parsaun ata... (He meant tomorrow)
Me: Dost, aap parsaun aaye the (I meant yesterday) lol
C: Mai parsaun bole to Sunday ke payle aata
Me: Jab bhi aao, kal ata mat bolo, naito, nai bole to bhi, hum loga idhar aapke aane ke vaaste ghar se baahar nai na jaa sakte..
C: Aap fikar nakko karo Saab, mai ab kal aata bole to parsaun aattach.
Me: To ab kab aare bhai?
C: Do-teen roz se aata
Me: Theek hai, phone karke aana
C: Hau saab

He did come after a couple of days.

Whenever, I had some work with a mason, carpenter, mechanic etc. I always used to ask, Kal aaata bole to kitte din baad aate bhai? ek hafta ya ek mahinaa... :-)

Similarly with time, ab aata bole to kab aata...

Me: Myself
Travel agent: T

Me:Saade-nau ka bus ka time hai... dost, bus kab aarai, bhai?
T: sab Seeta (seata) full kiye to aati...
T: Ab aati saab
Me: ab bole to kab? :-) Aur sab seata full kiye to seat kaise milti
T: Bole to season mai jaana mushkil hai, Aaapke liye seeta book kartaon na mai...
Me: Aap kitta lenge...
T: Puna honaa to chaar sau hotaaa
