New Rules in One Day International Cricket

New Rules in ODI Cricket

- ICC introduces Substitution of players in One Day International Cricket on a trial basis for a 10-month period from July 30, 2005.

- Fielding restrictions in ODIs increased from 15 to 20 overs.
# Only ten of these to be bowled at the start of the innings and the remaining ten to be adjusted in two blocks of five as per the fielding captain's wish.

- The close-in catcher field restriction will be in force for only the first ten overs.

An example of substitution:
India can play Anil Kumble and Mohammed Kaif together.
Kumble bowls his 10 overs and then Kaif takes the batting spot.
